KARACHI, Oct 14: The city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, has asked the Malir Development Authority (MDA) to furnish a complete record of its New Malir Housing Project in which it has allegedly fleeced thousands of poor and low-income people.

Taking a strong notice of the project, for which the authority had not only published misleading advertisements but also had collected millions of rupees from the allottees, the Nazim exhorted the officials of the MDA to submit a complete record of the scheme to the city government before October 18.

A spokesman for the city government said that the Nazim had convened a high-level meeting on Oct 18 to devise action for alleviating the sufferings of the allottees as well as to ascertain the facts about misappropriation of millions of rupees by the senior officers of the MDA.

An official of the city government said that the DCO, Shafiq- ur-Rehman Paracha, has also been asked to attend the meeting and brief the Nazim about the housing project.

The MDA, he added, had issued allotment orders of plots to thousands of allottees although it had neither any land for the scheme nor it was authorized to do so.

Besides, the money which the MDA had generated from the allottees was misappropriated by its senior officials and a private firm, which was assigned the task of the scheme’s publicity/contract, had already been paid millions of rupees without any work, he added.
