Sailors for Istanbul Regatta

KARACHI, Aug 2: Pakistan squad on Tuesday left for International Sailing Regatta to be held in Istanbul, Turkey from Wednesday. According to the secretary Pakistan Sailing Federation (PSF), Captain R. Syed Waqar Hasan, the Pakistan squad would compete in three Classes in a week-long event including Laser Standard, Laser Radial and 470 Class.

PSF secretary said that the team include M. Yousuf and Ashfaq Iqbal who will compete in Laser Standard, Mamoon Sadiq and Sajjad will show their skills in Laser Radial while Zahid and Aamir will contest in 470 Class.

Sq. Leader Munawer Alam will be the manager of the squad.

Waqar pointed out that PSF is preparing its sailors for participation in Asian Games 2006 to be held in December 2006 at Doha, Qatar, and this tour of Istanbul was the step towards it. He added that Pakistani team will also compete in the Al Kharifi International Regatta to be held in Kuwait in December 2005.—PPI
