‘PIA pensions’

Published September 21, 2019

THIS is apropos the letter ‘PIA pensions’ (Sept 7). Old and infirm pensioners are still being deprived of their due right. The amount commuted (paid lump sum) at the time of retirement was equivalent to half pension for 10 years. Therefore full pension should automatically be restored after 10 years.

However, today even the first generation of pensioners who made PIA one of the top 10 airlines of the world during the golden decade (1965 to1975) are still being paid half pension. Owing to the unprecedented rise in the cost of living over the years, old pensioners are struggling to make ends meet. I urge PIA to double our pensions with retrospective effect.
