Irrigation water board formed

LAHORE, Aug 2: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has constituted the Punjab Irrigation Water Regulation Advisory Board for ensuring canal water distribution in the province especially in its southern parts.

According to a handout issued here on Tuesday, Irrigation Minister Aamir Sultan Cheema would be the chairman of the board. Its members include irrigation secretary Arif Nadeem, agriculture secretary Fayyaz Bashir, MPAs Abdullah Yousaf Warraich from Gujrat, Sardar Darya Khan Fayyaz from Rahim Yar Khan, Abdullah Wains from Bahawalnagar, Hamid Malhi from Narowal, Afaq Tiwana from Khushab and Haji Arshad Chaudhry from Rahim Yar Khan.

The board would prepare policy guideline for irrigation water management in line with cropping pattern in the province, and firm up recommendations for equitable and efficient distribution of irrigation water.

The other main functions of the board were to propose framework for the participation of farmers in the distribution and rotation of water at the levels of canal system, circle and division, continuous evaluation and updating of seasonal water regulation plans and any other function to be entrusted by the provincial government.
