KARAK: A teacher resorted to firing in the air during the morning assembly in a private school in Chokara area on Wednesday, creating panic among the students and other teachers who ran for cover. No one was injured in the incident.

A contingent of police reached the spot soon after the incident and encircled the school building. However, the accused teacher had escaped the area before the police arrived.

Sources said the school principal and the teacher namely Iqbal had scuffled over an issue inside the school a day ago. The teacher had hit the principal with a blunt tool and had injured him.

They said the principal got registered a case against the teacher in the Takht-i-Nusrati police station which infuriated him and he reached the school next morning and resorted to firing in the air during the morning assembly.

The school administration closed the school and sent back the students to their homes. The police are investigating the incident.

POWER BREAKDOWN PROTESTED: The people of Chountra came onto the roads on Wednesday in protest against a prolonged power breakdown.

The locals led by former councillor Lal Badshah marched on the area road and blocked it to traffic at Saratkhel. They raised slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company.

They speakers said power supply to dozens of localities remained suspended for last 48 hours, creating water shortage.
