BEIJING, Aug 1: The Organiz-ation of Islamic Conference (OIC) highly admires Pakistan’s role in promoting common objectives and projecting Islamic values and culture in their true perspective.

This was stated by the OIC’s Secretary-General Prof Ekemeledin Ihsanoglu while talking to newsmen here on Monday at the Pakistan Embassy after addressing a meeting of the Beijing-based heads of Islamic missions.

Mr Ihsanoglu who is currently on an official visit to China, said Pakistan being a founding member has major contribution to the development of the OIC.

“In its reform process, the OIC has received very useful proposals from Pakistan to make it a more practical and viable organization for safeguarding the interests of the Muslim world. And now these proposals are under consideration,” he added.

Speaking about President Pervez Musharraf’s vision of ‘Enlightened Moderation”, Prof Ihsanoglu said, ‘No doubt it proves very effective to dismiss the negative propaganda against Islam and the Muslims in the wake of war against terrorism.”

President Musharraf’s vision, he pointed out, has been made part of ‘Eminent Persons document of the OIC’, he remarked. He said the organization was thankful to Pakistan for its active support for addressing the challenges, being faced today by the Muslim world. Earlier, addressing the meeting, he emphasized that the OIC must have a voice at the United Nations and the European Union.

“We are now actively engaged in improving the charter and structure of the 57-member world body, making it a dynamic and result-oriented,” he added.—APP
