There was no edition of the newspaper on Sept 12, 1969, on account of the death anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam. The following excerpt is from the previous day’s edition.

KARACHI: The Central Government has met the total foreign exchange requirements of the Karachi Development Authority for completion of the second phase of the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme to Increase the City’s water supply by 70 M.G.D.

The foreign exchange will be made available out of the French and Western German loans. While the French loan will be utilised in the setting up of the water purification and filter plants at Pipri and the COD Hills, the German loan will be used for the import of giant boosters to be set up at Dhabeji.

The French loan was sanctioned some months ago and the KDA has already awarded the contract to a French firm for a “turn key job”. The German loan was sanctioned recently and order for the import of the boosters out of this allocation has also been placed. These boosters will cost about Rs. 18 lakh.

While placing the order for the boosters, the KDA has urged the German manufacturers to make them available on time to commission the project by December 1970. — Correspondent
