LAHORE: The Sikh girl from Nankana Sahib, who was allegedly abducted and forced to convert to Islam, will be returned to her family after negotiations between a high-level government delegation and a committee of the Sikh community, as per media reports on Tuesday.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar made the announcement here on Tuesday.

Jagjit Kaur, 19, was allegedly abducted by Muhammad Hasaan and his accomplices last Wednesday (Aug 28). The issue went viral on Friday after a video clip of girl’s family surfaced on social media regarding the case.

In a tweet from his official account, Mr Sarwar posted a video, saying that the issue was “amicably resolved to the satisfaction of the families concerned”. He was standing with the families of both Jagjit and Hasaan. He thanked both the families for coming to the Governor’s House on his request.

“Great news for Pakistani & Sikh communities across the world. Issue of Nankana girl was amicably resolved to the satisfaction of the concerned families. The girl is safe & in touch with her family. We shall continue to ensure the rights of minorities in Pakistan!,” wrote the governor in his tweet.

In the video, he invited the father of the suspect, Hasaan, to speak. Hasaan’s father said that they withdraw from the case and they won’t have any objection if Jagjit went with her family.
