KARACHI, July 31: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said that the law and order conditions in Karachi and elsewhere in the province are conducive for holding fair and transparent elections.

“However, greater responsibility devolves upon the opposition to maintain law and order,” he said while talking to newsmen at the concluding ceremony of the three-day International Housing Industries Exhibition at Expo Center on Sunday evening.

He said the government had made all arrangements for holding the local bodies elections in a fair and transparent manner. The police and Rangers had the capacity to maintain law and order and they had taken necessary measures.

The governor told the newsmen that the code of condut announced by the Election Commission would be effectively enforced.

The government, he said, wanted peaceful conduct of elections and was contacting political parties in this regard.

However, if the opposition had any reservations about the law and order situation, they themselves should tell as to who were going to disturb law and order as the government on its part was bound to hold peaceful elections.

He said those complaining that the code of conduct was being violated could file their complaints at the Election Commission, which was an independent authority established for this very purpose.

Dr Ibad said the opposition had no agenda and if they tought they had done something for the people for which they could claim to have their vote, they should bring the same before the people instead of indulging in mere accusations.—APP
