PESHAWAR: Central president of the Awami National Party Asfandyar Wali Khan has convened a meeting of the party’s central working committee on Sept 7 here at the Bacha Khan Markaz to discuss important national issues.
ANP central secretary general Mian Iftikhar Hussain issued letters to the party’s provincial presidents for attending the meeting.
Party leader Asfandyar Wali Khan will address a news conference later in the day to inform the media about the decisions taken in the meeting.
Meanwhile, ANP provincial president Aimal Wali Khan said he would challenge different aspects of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in a court of law, including delay in its completion, its defective planning, and increase in its cost.
A news release issued here quoted Aimal Wali as saying the BRT, the lone mega project in the provincial capital, has become a ‘story of the government’s corruption and incompetence’.
He said the BRT project’s cost was increasing with each passing day but its completion was not in sight.
The ANP leader said the NAB had turned a blind eye to irregularities in the project.
He said he would consult legal experts on moving the court of law in that respect.
Mr Aimal said TV journalists were tortured and stopped from performing duty when they tried to highlight the BRT defects.
He demanded action against the culpable officials.
