Library vs park

Published August 27, 2019

IN this age of technology, libraries do not get the attention they deserve from us or higher authorities.

Libraries are not just confined to reading and research, they also provide people with access to the internet, printers, fax machines, audio books, DVDs and in some cases arrange computer classes and special activities for students.

I live in Dadu, here we have only one public library — the Allama I. I. Qazi Library which was established years ago.

These days everyone is in a cut-throat competition with his/her peers. Everyone wants higher grade and better jobs. In order to accomplish these goals, students sit outside the library gate from 8am or earlier. The doors open at 9am.

As the early bird catches the worm, these students want to get the best study spot in the hall.

In order to accommodate all students and readers in the town, the Sindh government should look into the possibility of setting up more libraries.

Additionally, I think it might be a good idea if they cut down on the cost of public parks and invest in more reading rooms. Right now we have Shahjahan parks, the municipal park, the gymkhana park and the Benazir park for women. Instead of spending money on yet another park, it might be more useful to spend money on books and a library.
