QUETTA, July 30: A sabotage attempt was foiled Saturday when a citizen informed police about the presence of a suspicious bicycle with a fruit crate at the airport road. Capital City Police Officer Salman Syed, while speaking at a press conference at his office, said that a citizen informed the police about the bicycle upon which a police contingent was rushed to the site and found the bomb in a wooden fruit crate. The bomb disposal squad was immediately called which defused the 10-kg homemade bomb.

“Saboteurs wanted large scale killings and destruction with the powerful remote-control bomb,” the CCPO said. Replying to a question, the CCPO said he couldn’t say at the moment who they specifically wanted to target.

He announced a reward of Rs10,000 for the citizen who informed the police about the bicycle. Meanwhile, three powerful explosions were also reported from Kohlu township on Saturday.

Sources said that the first explosion occurred around 8am, close to a church and after five minutes another blast occurred near the office of Kohlu tehsildar, whereas the third explosion rocked the building of the Survey of Pakistan. No casualty was reported. The bombs were homemade, police said.
