LAHORE: Police on Thursday booked retired Capt Mohammad Safdar, the husband of PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz and 14 party workers for hurling threats at policemen during the court appearance of party leaders.

According to the FIR, on the court appearance of Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shahbaz, some 15 PML-N workers, including Mr Safdar, hurled threats at policemen and interfered in their official work.

It said Mr Safdar snatched a baton from a policeman and tried to attack him with it.

They have been booked under sections 186, 147, 149 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Meanwhile, the PML-N has criticised the Punjab government over the case against Mr Safdar and others.

PML-N Lahore President Pervaiz Malik said the rulers who had “sold out Kashmir” could not suppress the people’s voice against the injustices they were committing.

He said the police tortured the PML-N workers during the court appearance of Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shahbaz on Wednesday.

He said Imran Khan’s “fascist” government could not stop the PML-N workers from expressing solidarity with their leaders.

He said the country was under dictatorship as the opposition’s voice was being suppressed and the media was under censorship.
