PESHAWAR: A yearlong faculty development project to train teachers and other staff of government women colleges and improve standard of education concluded here on Wednesday.

The programme, started in May 2018, was jointly organised by the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) and Pakistan Development Foundation (PDF) and about 150 female college faculty members and other staff attended the training programme.

The closing ceremony took place at the Pakistan Academy for Rural Development which was attended by SBBWU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Razia Sultana, PDF chairman Mohammad Bilal Sethi, Pakistan Institute of Management Director General Farah Hamid Khan and other officials.

A statement issued here said that under the project principals and faculty members of government women colleges were trained that also included those from merged districts in several disciplines. It said that the project was aimed at improving the standard of education at college level and the teachers were briefed about emerging trends in teaching, particularly in the field of BS programmes, which had been incorporated at college level.

It said that the project targeted a total of 34 institutes and 150 female participants. In the first workshop which took place in July last year 40 college faculty members from merged districts were trained in five sessions about English learning, educational management and planning, learning psychology, academic writing and other issues.

In the second workshop, 42 librarians from 34 institutions were provided capacity building training. As many as 37 participants from three merged districts took part in the third workshop, while in the fourth such session 30 staffers from 13 institutions of provincial capital participated.
