KHAR: The district administration and health department on Tuesday urged the media to help them eliminate polio in Bajaur tribal district by convincing people about the children’s vaccination.

The request was made by the officials during a consultative meeting with journalists held here ahead of the three-day anti-polio drive scheduled to begin on Aug 24.

Senior officials of the district administration and health department and representatives of World Health Organisation, Uncief and other polio-related institutions, including additional deputy commissioner Mehmood Ahmad Khan attended the session.

Officials of the health department, WHO and Uncief said the event was called to update the media on arrangements for anti-polio drive and seek their help for countering wrong public perceptions about vaccination.

About the activities to counter negative impression about anti-polio vaccination drive in the district, the health officials said more than 2,000 awareness and mobilisation sessions had been conducted with multiple stakeholders across the district since May 2019.
