APROPOS the editorial ‘Protecting the poor’ (Aug 3). Can the government count the 55m Pakistanis who are living under the poverty line?

If the government launches some sustainable programmes for them, what is the guarantee that they have benefited specifically? Surely, all those who are over the line would also take advantage of relief like the proposed subsidy for tandoors.

Our survival lies in the payment of taxes by every individual. On the other hand, the government should focus on a systematic approach through the documentation of each commodity for the awareness of customers with a strict check on avoiding the turbulent condition flowing from inflation.
