Complaint system

Published August 11, 2019

THE Punjab Information Commission’s online complaint system has not been working for the last few months.

Not only was my time wasted, but I had to contact the commission’s office to manually register a complaint against the department for not providing the required information that I had asked for in June.

The commission issued one notice to the Bank of Punjab and passed an order on June 17 to provide requisite information within seven days which the bank failed to do.

Another complaint vide email dated June 25 was filed with the commission to initiate action against the errant organisation, including contempt. The commission failed to take action on my other complaints filed in June.

The root cause of its ills seem to be the staff hired on daily wages and the appointment of retired bureaucrats as commissioners who do not have enough energy and do not give importance to genuine complaints.

It is high time the information commission gets it act together and start performing its functions as per law.
