QUETTA: Balochistan Governor retired justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai on Friday said the government was taking measures to provide stronger base to medical institutions to resolve the issue of doctors’ shortage in the province.

Presiding over a syndicate meeting of Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS), Mr Yasinzai said that with the joint efforts of the government and some medical institutions, the BUMHS was on the path to progress.

He told the syndicate that there were bright chances for the university to become one of the best medical universities of Pakistan.

BUMHS Vice Chancellor Dr Naqeebullah Achakzai, MPA Akhtar Hussain Langove, Bolan Medical College Principal Dr Shabbir Ahmed Lehri, syndicate members Dr Abdul Baqi Durrani, Prof Akhtar Mulghani and Prof Naila Ehsan and registrar Shakeel Ahmed attended the meeting.

During the meeting, various issues of the medical university were reviewed and decisions taken for providing more facilities to the institution for the promotion of medical education.

The governor said the government was utilising all available resources for resolving the issue of shortage of doctors in the province. In this regard, he said measures were being taken to provide a stronger base to the newly established medical colleges in the province.

He said the provincial government had allocated huge funds for medical colleges to ensure provision of maximum facilities to medical students in accordance with the guidelines of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

He lauded the efforts of Bolan Medical College faculty for providing quality education to students, expressing the hope that it would result in meeting the shortage of doctors in future.
