Asfand and Yasir clash for crown

KARACHI, July 27: Asfand Rauf and Yasir Khan will battle it out in the final of the men’s singles after outclassing their rivals in the semifinals of the 15th STA Sindh ranking tennis tournament on Wednesday. Asfand was too strong for an outclassed Rizwan Shamsi 6-1, 6-3 while Yasir gave Ghulam Abbas hardly any chance of scoring an upset with an emphatic 6-3, 6-3 success.

The junior Under-17 final will be as expected between top seed Nasir Mushtaq and Ghulam Abbas who faced little trouble in disposing off the feeble challenges of Mateen Arif and Jahangir Khalid.

Boys U-15 (semifinals) Zuhair Raza bt Jahangir Rashid 2-6, 7-5, 7-5;

Boys U-11 singles (semifinals) Adil Kohari bt Taha Bande-ali 6-0,6-3; Nameer Shamsi bt Shyeryar Ahmad 6-1, 6-3

Boys U-13 singles (semifinals) Zuhair Raza bt Mustafa Zaidi 6-0, 6-2

Juniors U-17 (semifinals) Nasir Mushtaq bt Mateen Arif 6-2, 6-1; Ghulam Abbas bt Jahangir Rashid 6-2, 6-1

Mens singles (semifinals) Asfand Rauf bt Rizwan Shamsi 6-1, 6-3; Yasir Khan bt Ghulam Abbas 6-3, 6-3

Thursday fixtures Boys U-15 semifinal 9.30am Juniors U-17 final 12.30pm Girls U-17 final 3pm Boys U-9 final 3pm Boys U-11 final 3 pm Ladies singles semifinal 5pm.
