Income tax filing deadline for FY2018 extended to August 9

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Friday notified a week-long extension in the filing of income tax returns for the financial year 2017-18.

Previously, the last date to file the statement was today (August 2). With the extension, the facility will be available for filers to avail until August 9.

"The Federal Board of Revenue is pleased to further extend the date of filing of income tax returns/statements for the tax year 2018 for individuals/AoP (Association of Persons) and companies upto 9th August, 2019," read a notification issued by the revenue collection body.

The government has already extended the last date several times since August last year for filing of tax returns of FY2018.

So far, 2.1 million people have filed their tax returns, which is the highest in the FBR’s history. FBR has projected a target to enhance these returns numbers to 4m for the tax year 2019.

there are bogus figures......my cousin works in the fbr........actually the filing target was not met.......they are in dire need to raise revenue to cut the deficit.......this is simply government's desperate measure of continuous scare tactics at first and then softening their stance with extensions.

FY 2018-19 has ended and they are still extending deadline for the previous year. The only aim is to get "highest"number of returns. They should close last year and focus on next year.

Extending the date of filing is routine. It has been going on since my child hood and will keep on going for many more years. It persuade people who are filing their return in time to file their returns late. Government is shy of taking actions against defaulters.

Government should maybe use small incentives to attract people to file, in-addition to increasing awareness about filing yearly should become a nationwide awareness campaign

Last year the date for filing income tax return was extended upto November 2018. People are busy in preparations for Eid-ul-Azha. August 9 is too close.

Excuse me what about us? I'm a retired senior citizen and I filed 2018 tax returns long ago. I m now due to file 2018-2019 returns. So far FBR hasn't even uploaded the relevant forms. What to do?

If the state becomes so active in collecting taxes then it should also to provide services to its citizen. Even the conditions of basic utility services such as electricity, gas, roads, hospitals are very bad in the country. The state should improve the quality and quantity of these services from the people money, i.e., taxes.

The number of filers is nothing to boast about. An old couple with no income have to file returns to avoid the draconian penalty on their old banger token tax.
