Bifurcation orders in abeyance

Published July 28, 2005

LAHORE, July 27: The Pakistan Railways has held in abeyance its earlier orders to bifurcate any of its divisions by posting two divisional superintendents in Karachi, it is learnt.

Sources told Dawn on Wednesday that the orders of posting Chief Operating Superintendent Nasreen Haq as Karachi divisional superintendent (freight) and re-designating Junaid Qureshi as DS (passengers) had been withdrawn.

They said Ms Haq had been granted a four-month leave and Chief Commercial Manager (Passengers) Maqsood Ahmad Khan was posted COPS in her place while Mukhtar Abbassi would be taking charge of the office of the CCM (passengers) on Thursday (today).

Promoted to BS-20 some six months ago, Ms Haq was given the task to handle all the incoming and outgoing cargo at the port, rendering the office of the additional general manager (freight) at the headquarters ‘ineffective,’ the sources said.

The orders were withdrawn following strong protests by senior officers of the organization and intervention of the National Assembly standing committee on railways, they said.
