Two die as roof of building collapses

SIALKOT: As many as three people, including a woman, died and eight others injured seriously in two incidents of roof collapse during the heavy rain that lashed the district on Saturday.

In the first incident, two labourers died and eight others were injured seriously, when the roof of a triple-storey under-construction building suddenly collapsed during the heavy rain at Kamaanwala-Chaprar village in Sialkot tehsil.

The labourers were at work when the roof of the under-construction structure owned by a trader, Shahid Ghugh, collapsed during the downpour. As a result, 10 labourers were buried under the debris.

Rescue 1122 personnel, who were called to the spot, with the help of locals removed the debris and rescued the labourers. Two of the labourers — Saddam Hussain (27) and Latif (37) — died soon after.

The injured were shifted to the Government Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital Sialkot, where their condition was stated to be serious.

Similarly, at Pasrur, Amina (35), wife of Imran, died when the roof of her dilapidated house suddenly caved in during the heavy rain in congested Lohari Mandi locality.

As per locals, she was asleep in a room when the roof caved in, leaving her dead on the spot. Rescuers 1122 personnel retrieved her body from the debris.
