ISLAMABAD, July 26: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has said observing the law in letter and spirit without making compromises for petty gains is the solution to most of our problems.

He was speaking to a 14-member group of assistant superintendents of police accompanied by the deputy commandant and the course commander of the National Police Academy here on Monday.

The chief justice said: “We ourselves try to interpret and mould the law in accordance with our requirements, due to which as a nation we are facing a lot of difficulties.”

He said police officers should perform their duties with devotion, honesty and in accordance with law. He also asked officers to properly attend the aggrieved persons or victims and redress their problems.

Investigation should be conducted in a fair and professional manner, the chief justice said, adding that police department was the core component of the criminal justice system.

The members of the police force require to be continuously educated and trained during service so that their professional skills keep on improving.
