LAHORE: The Pakistan Railways police claimed on Friday to have foiled bid to smuggle heroin to India through a goods train from Lahore.

According to a spokesperson for the PR, the police acted following a tip-off about the suspicious activity at an Amratsar-bound goods train.

“A team led by inspector Ghulam Abbas reached the Lahore station and opened the train’s wagon No.60618. During search, the team found two packets of heroin weighing 555 grams. It seized the stuff and registered a case,” the spokesperson said in a press release.

A couple of months ago, the police had recovered about 9kg heroin from a wagon of the same train.

However, it didn’t disclose any development regarding the arrest of the accused or investigation related to the case. On June 30, India claimed seizure of 532 kg heroin worth Rs 2,700 crore at Attari which was smuggled in from Pakistan by a truck carrying rock salt through the trade route and arrested two importers.
