'Cow vigilantes' kill three in India

A mob in an Indian village beat to death three men suspected of stealing cattle on Friday in a new “cow vigilante” attack reported by police that highlights hardening Hindu nationalism.
A fourth man was in critical condition in hospital after the attack in a village in the eastern state of Bihar.
Police said three people had been detained for the killings and others in the village were suspected. At least one of the dead was Muslim.
The group had been driving a truck and were stopped in Pithori Nandlal village by a crowd who accused them of stealing cows, which are considered sacred by Hindus.
Many Indian states ban the eating and slaughter of beef. Attacks on individuals suspected of trading in cows have been increasing since Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, according to rights groups.
A Bihar police official told AFP the latest victims, who came from a rival village, “were badly beaten on suspicion of stealing cattle and died on the way to the hospital.”
As news of the deaths spread, residents from the men's home village went to the hospital to stage an angry protest, police said. Relatives of the dead beat up a man from Pinthori Nandlal.
Many of the “cow vigilante” attacks in recent years have been on Muslims and the opposition Congress party accused Bihar's state government of failing to protect minorities.
“Three people were beaten to death and are victims of mob lynching. But the government will give a different version of the incident to save its skin,” Congress lawmaker Premchand Mishra said in the state assembly.
At least 44 people were killed in cow-related violence from 2015 to 2018, according to the Human Rights Watch.
At least three other cases have been reported this year before the latest three men were killed. In May, a Muslim man was shot in the head in Kashmir state by cow vigilantes. Last month, a United States State Department report said religious violence against minorities had increased under Modi. It said Muslims and low-cast Dalits had been particularly targeted for eating beef. India rejected the report.

All these incidents proving Jinnah right. Thanks to him and despite of all the other problems Pakistan has, there is no such issue.
We still eat for e.g Dehli beef nihari and Behari Beef kebab openly in restaurants some of which are open 24 hours. Feel so pity for Indian Muslims.

Lynching over cows has been a common sport for them as it can be seen from reflecting facts and figures over the past few years. What bothers the most is the fact that they hold cows more sanctimonious over the lives of people. As far as nationalism is concerned, killing over cows does not prove any kind of nationalist love.

Anyone caught stealing is more often than not is beaten badly .someone stealing jwellery would not have it easy if he is unfortunate enough to get caught.
Second thing is that as slaughter of cow is not allowed in rest of India but is allowed in West Bengal so there is large scale smuggling of cows by well connected mafia gangs who also pay hefty bribes to police as well as politicians for it.
These cows are then smuggled to Bangladesh.
It is an open secret and therefore fuels public anger but since police looks other way so people sometimes take law in their hands.

A: No. In ancient India, cattle and oxen were sacrificed to the gods and the meat was eaten. But even then, milk-producing cows were off-limits, likely because their milk was so precious as a food source. But with the rise of Buddhism and Jainism - two other world religions with roots in India and a philosophy of vegetarianism - Hindus, too, stopped eating meat. By the first century A.D., cows had come to be associated with Brahmans, the highest caste, or class, in Hinduism. To kill a cow was likened to killing a Brahman - a big taboo. Soon after, Krishna, an incarnation of Vishnu, one of the three main Hindu gods, was often depicted in literature and art as cavorting with cows.

In speeches, Modi has condemned the “widespread killing of our cows” and has been criticized for being largely silent or late to comment on the slayings of Muslims suspected of eating beef or slaughtering cows. Vigilante groups such as “Save the Cow” have arisen, barging into the houses of Muslims, looking for beef. One member of Save the Cow told The New York Times, “We are more attached to the cow than our own children.”

India is home to 300 million cattle and is the world's largest exporter of beef -- it exported $4.8 billion worth of beef only last year -- and its fifth-biggest consumer. Not only is the beef industry big in India, so far we have also been able to exercise individual freedom to eat or not eat beef. But since Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in 2014, the rhetoric of cow protection and beef banning has spun out of control. The Maharashtra Government extended the ban on cow slaughter to include bulls and bullocks. A few weeks later, the state of Haryana passed similar legislation.

Turns out not. The earliest Vedas do not prohibit the slaughter of cattle. In fact, they ordain it as a part of sacrificial rites. Cattle were not only the major sacrificial victims in the Vedic times, but cow milk products like ghee were also regularly used for oblation -- a practice that continues to this day. Moreover, the Brahmans that performed the cow sacrifices also readily ate the consecrated beef. It is true that the Rigveda (1500-1200 BCE) alludes to the mystical relationship between the cow and the universe, while the Atharvaveda (1200-1000 BCE) calls the cow the "all producing and all containing universe" but they are silent concerning matters of cow slaughter.

We have cows, goats and hens in our homes. If somebody hurts them, It feels as if our family member is being hurt. Believe it or not, the pain is same.
Now it depends on how a person reacts when his family member is hurt. Few may forgive, few may forgive after verbal abuse and few may do physical abuse.
Physical abuse is not right, but people need to understand that you live in India and treat animals with love.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
Irrespective of the religious sentiments attached to a Cow, a person is not entitled to hurt anyone on the pretext of anyone hurting the cow.
Life is supreme. We should never hurt any form of life that exists on the planet.

Shining India! If Indian Hindus can’t stand to live with other minorities esp. Muslims in their own so-called ‘democratic’ and ‘secular’ country then they have no business going to Muslim countries in the Middle East or elsewhere to find work.
There’s Sri Lanka, Nepal and Mauritius to choose from. Take your pick. The Muslim countries whether in the Gulf or out East should be off limits until minorities are treated fairly and equally (as compared to upper caste Hindus) in their own country.
Perhaps OIC can take up this matter at its next meeting and put a moratorium in place to that effect.

In villages cattle is seen as a property and people's livelihood depends on cows and hence this case seems to be more of a theft than of religious, whatever be the case taking law into their hands should be condemned and the culprits needs to be punished.
