PESHAWAR, July 25: The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has distributed clothes, cash and wheat among people affected by rain and flood in Karak district. According to a press release issued here, 23 families benefited from the relief distributed in the presence of former elected representatives, volunteers, teachers and district officers.
Speaking on the occasion, social activist and district volunteer of the NCHD Professor Waqar-ul-Mulk said flood and rains were natural disasters and people on their own could not cope with them.
However, he said, concrete steps should be taken to minimize their damage. Proper planning and management of available resources could help minimise their effects, Professor Waqar added.
President of the Yaraan Welfare Organisation, Akbar Zaman, said that being the resident of a poor district, people actively participated in fund-raising for the rain and flood victims.
“It is a matter of concern that we failed to plan to ensure prevention of floods. Still we need to focus on measures to prevent this kind of disasters in future,” Mr Zaman said.
The NCHD general manager, Nasim Ejaz Khattak, said the commission was extending help to the community as well as the government-line departments to facilitate life of the masses.
