LAHORE: An elderly woman’s gesture moved some to tears when she reached the Shahdara police station for the release of her son shortly after he attacked her with an axe and injured her over a minor issue.

With bruises on her face, arms and chest and bloodstains on her dress, Sakina Bibi reached the police station and insisted that police release her son Mumtaz, 35, a police official said.

He said the incident occurred on Tuesday noon as Mumtaz attacked his mother with an axe.

He injured the woman and the neigbours rushed to save her on hearing her cries. They later called police who took Mumtaz into custody.

The woman, however, refused to go to hospital for treatment and reached the police station to seek recovery of her son.

The police official said the woman insisted that she would not leave the police station without her son and officials had no option but to leave Mumtaz after reprimanding him.

DIES: A man who allegedly killed his wife and injured his nine-month-old baby over a domestic issue in Baghbanpura also succumbed to his critical wounds at a hospital here on Tuesday.

Shahbaz, 35, was rushed to the hospital after he reportedly injured himself shortly after killing his wife Rabia Bibi late on Monday.

A police official said the condition of the baby was said to be serious.

His body was rushed to the city morgue for autopsy.
