VEHARI: The Model Town police station in Burewala registered an FIR against 20 unidentified traders.

Various trade organisations of Burewala, led by Anjuman Tajran President Jameel Bhatti, held a meeting on the Burewala Municipal Committee (MC) premises on July 10 and finalised the July 13 strike strategy. On Monday, on the application of MC Chief Officer Muhammad Ali, the police registered a case against the traders who attended the meeting.

Mr Ali told Dawn these traders were involved in anti-government activities and they forced the traders to participate in the July 13 strike. He, however, did not disclose the traders, nominated in the FIR.

He said main office-bearers of traders’ bodies would be arrested soon.

According to sources, another FIR would be registered soon against the traders who forced the people to participate in the July 13 strike in other parts of the district.

Model Town SHO Gul Muhammad said the FIR had been registered under sections 186, 148 and 149 of the PPC and 16 MPO. Till the filing of this report, no arrest was mad.

Mr Bhatti condemn the registration of the FIR against traders and said the local administration had failed to thwart the strike and now such baseless FIR was just to pressurise the traders.

He said the traders of Burewala would follow the decisions of their organization and not of the administration. He demanded the withdrawal of cases.
