LANDI KOTAL: Cross-border movement at Torkham remained suspended for some time on Tuesday after an exchange of hot words between the border guards of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Reason behind the verbal brawl could not be known as local officials refused to share details of the incident with media. Traffic, however, was restored after the intervention of senior officials from both sides.

Meanwhile, custom clearing of Pakistani goods to Afghanistan was also delayed for several hours on Tuesday owing to a technical fault in the internet service.

Officials said that they were trying their best to rectify the fault and clear the backlog of vehicles that could not be cleared on time.

A large number of loaded vehicles were seen stranded at the custom terminal, awaiting their custom clearance.

SESSION: The health authorities along with officials of local administration arranged a polio awareness session in jirga hall in Landi Kotal on Tuesday.

A sizable number of local elders, clerics, teachers, students and civil society members participated in the session. The participants were told about the negative effects of a campaign against anti-polio vaccine in Peshawar on April 22. They were urged to avoid such negative campaign in future.

Dr Misal Khan and Dr Farman said on the occasion that anti-polio vaccine was administered to children to save them from the crippling disease. They said that the vaccine had no side effects.

They appealed to the participants to cooperate with health teams during the anti-polio vaccination campaigns and also try to convince others about the efficacy of the anti-polio vaccine.

WOMAN DIES: An injured woman, who sustained injuries in a road accident on Monday, succumbed to her injuries in a hospital on Tuesday. Relatives of the deceased woman said that excessive bleeding caused her death as she could not be treated timely at the local hospital owing to lack of emergency related health services.
