KARACHI, July 22: In the first phase of local body elections to be held in 11 districts of Sindh on Aug 18, 27,288 nomination papers were filed for 7,657 seats of 589 union councils. Of the total, about 11,265 nominations papers were filed for 178 UCs of the Karachi City District Government.

The highest number of nomination papers was filed in Karachi East where the total stood at 2,877 for 46 UCs.

About 2,866 nomination papers were filed in Karachi West for 42 UCs.

Some 2,080 papers were filed in Central for 42 UCs and 1,811 in Malir for 21 UCs and 1,631 in 27 UCs of Karachi South.

Naushahro Feroze attracted the highest number of papers where 2,284 nomination papers were filed for 51 UCs.

About 2,129 papers were filed in Sanghar for 55 UCs while for 41 UCs of Mirpurkhas 1,970, for 55 UCs of Thatta 1,815, for 40 UCs of Jacobabad 1,609, for 37 UCs of Kashmore 1,452, for 44 UCs of Tharparkar 1,268, for 27 UCs of Omarkot 1,426, for 42 UCs of Ghotki 1109, and for 19 UCs of Tando Allahyar 961 nominations were filed.

A total of 2,556 nomination papers were filed for 1,178 joint seats of nazims and naib nazims in 589 UCs of 11 districts while against 2,356 Muslim general seats 110,990 nominations, for 1,178 Muslim women seats 3,426, for 1,178 seats of peasants/workers 5,674, for 1,178 peasants/worker women 2,685 and for 589 minority communities seats 1,857 nomination were submitted.
