LAHORE: Gulberg police on Thursday registered attempt to murder case against four members of a Dolphin Squad involved in firing and injuring a 20-year-old motorcyclist on MM Alam Road.
Umar Raza riding a bike was on his way to buy medicine for his ailing mother from Liberty Market when the Dolphin Squad team 37 signalled him to stop for checking. The youngster did not see the signal at which the personnel opened fire at him.
One of the bullets hit the leg of the youngster while other damaged his motorcycle. The Dolphin personnel Rafaqat, Asif, Zeeshan and Waseem took the youngster to the police station first where they tortured him and accused him of carrying weapon. Afterwards, they shifted him to Services Hospital where he was said to be stable.
Victim’s father Abdul Rasheed lodged a complaint against the Dolphin Squad and a case was registered under sections 324 (attempt to murder), 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Other sections like misuse of authority, torture, illegal detention, intimidation were not added to the case.
The officials had been suspended and an inquiry was initiated against them.
