'Happy that MQM is getting another ministry,' says Bilawal

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday welcomed the government's decision to give the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) another ministry.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday decided to give another ministry to MQM after a meeting with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and MQM leaders. Presently, the MQM has two federal ministries — law and information technology.

According to the PM Office, the prime minister also decided to announce development packages for Karachi and Hyderabad.

Speaking to the media before the National Assembly session, Bilawal said: "It is a matter of happiness for me that someone from my province is getting a ministry."

"I hope that all the promises Imran Khan has made to the country will be fulfilled. At this point, none of the promises the prime minister has made have come true. Imran Khan had promised a desalination plant for Karachi. The Sindh government is ready to cooperate in the matter, but the prime minister has backed out," he said, while criticising the PTI government.

"Imran Khan promised a Karachi Package, but the funds allocated in there are not enough. The way the funds are being given is also illegal. Like the rest of the country, Sindh has also been cheated [by the PM]," the PPP chairperson alleged.

PPP's own performance should be evaluated. Shahra e Faisal's revamping is a disaster, all the other new roads have already developed potholes. University Road is still suffering from severe congestion. PPP decided to build the orange line when the green line project started, the green line is almost there even though its progress has been slowed down by PPP's bureaucracy while I don't see the much smaller orange line (only 2 KM long) anywhere .. only the road has been left dug up for 4 years now. PPP claims its a victim, however, the people of Pakistan, Sindh and specially Karachi are the biggest victims of its existence.

The PPP has done a lot for its voters from the rural areas of Sindh. They've ensured that even those Sindhis who are not very deserving get jobs and benefits even in the urban areas of the province. The real predicament of the urban areas like Karachi and Hyderabad is the tug-of-war that is always going on between the PPP and the MQM. So the people of the urban areas of Sindh, across linguistic and ethnic affiliations, should either press ahead for a separate province or else just vote for the PPP candidates from amongst them instead of supporting the not-so-beneficial MQM, a party that the Pakistani establishment created and promoted for some time but which cannot otherwise make any significant impact in the greater provincial or country-wide politics.

Look who is talking. Karachi is part of Sindh, and Karachi's development budget should be allocated from Sindh's PSPD. Where are those funds and how much money was allocated by Sindh govt to Karachi's development in the last 11 years. What mega projects for Karachi were completed in this time frame.
