CHITRAL, July 21: The district Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and Jamiat Ulama-i-Islam (JUI-F) have failed to form an alliance for local body elections. The two parties discussed the issue in a meeting. Political circles cite this failure of the talks between the two major components of the MMA as a major development, which, according to them, would pave way for the success of secular parties.

Moulana Saeedullah, local JUI president Moulana Sher Aziz, JI Ameer Moulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Moulana Mohammad jahangir, Moulana Abdur Rehman and others, attended the meeting.

DRUG DESTROYED: For the first time in the history of the district, the authorities set a large quantity of drugs on fire.

Magistrate and Civil Judge Mian Ajmal Shah was present on the occasion.

The contraband included 50kg of charas, 15kg of opium, 60 litres of liquor and 1kg of heroin.

Police had seized the drugs on different occasions.
