RAWALPINDI: Punjab Minister for Local Government Raja Basharat on Saturday asked the cantonment authorities to issue notices to service stations to stop wastage of water to overcome water shortage for domestic consumers.
Presiding over a meeting held to review development works in the district, he asked the authorities concerned to speed up work on water supply schemes to complete them without delay.
The meeting was attended by Acting Commissioner Chaudhry Mohammad Ali Randhawa and senior officials of the district administration and cantonment boards of Rawalpindi and Chaklala.
The minister said water shortage in the cantonment areas should be solved as soon as possible. He said the cantonment authorities should start work to stop water leakages in supply lines and filtration plants.
He said the water supply line from Adra to Chakri Road should be completed as soon as possible so that the residents could get enough water.

He also asked the district administration and the cantonment authorities to prepare arrangements to avoid floods by the end of June.
He took serious notice of encroachments and asked the civic bodies to clear all hurdles to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
The minister asked the district administration to complete the beautification of Rashid Minhas Road as Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has already issued directions in this regard. The cantonment boards were asked to improve sanitation in their respective areas and lift garbage on a daily basis.
The minister said the government wanted to make cities neat, clean and green on a priority basis. He said he would visit the city and cantonment areas to check the cleanliness and greenbelts.
The acting commissioner informed the meeting that the district administration had made all arrangements to deal with any flood like situation.
He said cleanliness of Leh Nullah was almost done and the garbage dumping along the nullah had been banned and violators were being fined.
He said the district administration had already been directed to complete development works, especially water related projects, on a priority basis. He said the district administration was working to provide maximum facilities to the residents.
