IHC irked by NAB failure to furnish reply in Sharif’s appeal

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday observed that lethargic attitude of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had caused a delay in disposal of cases and summoned Director General of the Rawalpindi chapter of NAB Irfan Mangi for not submitting a reply in the appeal filed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The IHC division bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani had resumed hearing of the appeal against Mr Sharif’s conviction in the Al-Azizia reference.

The prosecution told the court that the reply from NAB could not be submitted and sought more time to file the same.

The bench expressed displeasure and said that it was the lethargic attitude of NAB that had caused an inordinate delay in swift disposal of the cases.

This whole NAB activity against the plunderers looks doubtful as despite having solid evidences of illegal money laundering and corruptions, the cases are lingering... The person appointed at the top of NAB by both the persons in jail now tells perhaps some of the story. would be really unfortunate and tragic with Pakistan if we let the looters loose once again ....

Set a deadline and set aside the conviction if NAB isn’t ready to defend it. The convict has rights. Claims of ironclad proof of impropriety are proving to be just that - mere claims that can’t and won’t hold up in an independent court of law.

What is going on with NAB? Is NAB intentionally sabotaging this case? What is NAB justification for not submitting an appeal? NAB has an obligation to the Pakistani public to prosecute this case diligently.

Another glaring case highlighting the utter failure of our machinery to deliver justice ....... justice is being dragged on and on giving the impression that justice will eventually not be done......what a shame.
