SHEIKHUPURA, July 19: The District Bar Association’s strike against what it terms the wrong demarcation of the newly-created district Nankana Sahib entered its fourth day on Tuesday. The lawyers, who had been boycotting court proceedings for the last four days, also took out a procession which concluded at DCO office, where they presented a demand resolution. The DBA had been observing the strike against the inclusion of Safdarabad and Khanqah Dogran areas in the new district.

DBA president advocate Akbar Virk, talking to journalists, deplored the Punjab government’s decision to include the said areas in the new district.

He said these areas were situated quite far away from Nankana Sahib and the residents had to cover about 80-Km distance to reach the new district headquarters, which usually took four to five hours in the absence of any direct transport.

The authorities concerned should have considered the hardship faced by the people before taking the decision to include these areas in the new district, Mr Virk added.

He demanded the government to issue fresh notification declaring the said areas part of Sheikhupura district as per previous demarcation.

DBA Secretary-General Saghir Ahmad said that a lawyers’ delegation would soon proceed to Islamabad to meet president and prime minister to apprise them of the issue.
