Still it cheaper than India & US

we will see the actual results of this increase in a few months time.

What an era it was under NS petrol under 80, Dollar at 100, stock exchange 5th best in the world, motorways, Taliban removed, inflation below 3%/annum, infrastructures and much more. and Now its just shame everywhere be it in the world which sees IK as non performer and selected one but in Pakistan the way IK has treated Pakistanis is beyond imgination

@Ash Man , very right. What PTI followers are trying to calculate is that simply multiply Indian Fuel rate of 75 by 2 and comapre with Pakistan. If this is the case than also multiply Indian PCI by 2 which will go to $4,500. Actually same mind setup is running Pakistan that has taken Pakistan to the brink of a disaster

Petrol prices have gone up throughout the world maybe more than in Pakistan. Govt probably can't subsidize more at this point or raise per capita income. Where is the money supposed to come from for that?

@Seneca, yes agree. What I was trying to say was people with lower incomes are affected more by price rise than the affluent. A 2wheeler owner is more concerned about price even though he purchases only say 10 litres of petrol as compared to an suv owner who maybe purchasing 100 litres as the 2wheeler owner spends a higher percentage of his income on fuel. That’s basic economics.

Petrol will touch 150 rupees per liter by June 2020. Perhaps, this is attained earlier as PTI government in desperation will pass on burden of taxes to people directly. It has no courage to collect taxes from rich and hidden people.

It may go till 150. People have no option to beg.

Bangladesh, Nepal and Srilanka have way high per capita income than ours. Bangadesh by year 2025 will take over India in per capita income.

Rs 69 In India ....

PTI stalwarts nowadays just try to ignore what prices were there in NS era and compare the worst possible with worst possible else where in the world. One thing in Uganda is expensive the PTi stalwarts compare it with Pakistan and say Pakistan is doing better. With India there is no comparison first their fuel price is 69 which is in Local currency for them which is quite cheap for them cause its not in dollars. Second the 69 must be divided by 2 cause of less PCI in Pakistan and inflation which brings Indian Fuel to 35 as comapred to Pakistan's 110. What atragedy while other countries are progressing the iK is bringing us to even more poverty

Gasoline increase will affect the common man, there is no doubt. But failure to revise prices will make the oil companies unsustainable and will end up in a major crisis just like what happen in Venezuela, where former present Hugo Chavez kept prices artificially low. PTI descision to increase gas price is prudent and right thing to do.

In India major carrier for goods is railways. In Pakistan it is the motorways. Fuel price increase will have a multiplier effect on prices in the market. Common Pakistani is going to get crushed.

As oil is a high demand global commodity as such the fluctuation in its price will have a significant economic impact. Demand and supply have a direct influence on the oil prices. As demand increases or supply decreases, the prices go up. While as if demand decreases or supply increases the prices can go down. Demand usually rises in Spring and Summer seasons, while as comparatively goes down in autumn and winter months. In Pakistan the other reason for the continuous hike in oil prices is because country continues to face widening fiscal and current account deficits amid spiraling inflation. The deficits are already huge and unless immediate healing measures are not adopted they are apt to increase more and more with the passage of each day. In months to come there will be further increase in oil prices together with oil products.

Petrol costs 74 rupees in India or roughly 150 Pakistani rupees. So, despite the recent hike, petrol is not that expensive in Pakistan.Maybe you should export it to India!

Don't blame the govt. Oil is an imported commodity taking up precious foreign exchange. No choice but to increase the price and reduce consumption in present circumstances. Anyone in govt would have to take the same decision. With declining forex rate,the oil price must go up in rupee terms. If the rupee declines further, oil prices will go up again. Simple logic. No need to blame the govt.

@bhaRAT©, your population is 200mn and ours 1.35bn, almost a billion more than yours still percapita is more. If you know basic maths you will understand how difficult it is to achieve that. Increasing percapita for smaller population is much easier than gigantic population, but you failed!

PTI and IK need to communicate the price increases better, which is a burden on the poor. Otherwise these moves will backfire. Undoubtedly, it is necessary to get out of the debt trap but don't leave the masses in a info vaccum. Opposition will take advantage.

@Ash Man , Next time research proper sources not Indian doctored fudged figures. 'India's per capita income (nominal) was $1670 per year ranked at 112th out of 164 countries by the World Bank. Pakistan was $1,513.' Same category, in same boat.

For sure, this meager increase will hold on till 30th June, to be followed by substantial increase in petrol, electricity, gas and others prices, when the budget inclusive of IMF loan agreed terms and controls, takes hold. The country as whole and especially poor and low income group, making bulk of the population, should brace themselves for real tough ride ahead, lasting no less than 39 months in a row. The govt. has very little time waste, to let all the stakeholders well apprised of the future hardships to be faced with and steps taken to alleviate suffering of the common man. .

@Dr. Salaria, Aamir Ahmad, shame on you. Petrol is ‘imported’ so price MUST reflect cost. At PKR 113 per liter is about USD 3.50 per gallon. Good deal. Certainly much cheaper than EU and Canada.

So the Government can “invest” PKR 20 billion to enhance profits of the seths of the Stock Exchange but it cannot spare a penny to subsidise essential fuels. Come on it is not about austerity or efficiency. This is how an elite-captured system behaves….of the elite, by the elite and for the elite. Just read out the names, assets and friend list of those calling the shots and you would know!

@bhaRAT©, You need to straighten your priorities dude. Don't go simply by per capita income as there is no comparison. Look at the GDP difference too. Remember what India earns is split into 1.3 billion people compared to 250 million for Pakistan to calculate PCI. You should be focussed on why the PCI is low for Pakistan despite the significant disadvantage India has with such a large population when it comes to spreading money.

It’s still much cheaper then India. Pakistan Govt is not burdening people too much. Subsidies are still high.

@Eagle eyes, In India the fuel prices are deregulated and determined by the Oil companies and not by the government. The prices change every day based on international crude prices. They go up and also come down.

Consumer protection groups, oil companies & government devised a formula which takes into account the day’s oil price, rupee exchange rate to work out resale price. And prices are changed accordingly throughout India every night 00:01 am

Government is really worried about the health of people and wants them to revert back to use of cycles as this will not only improve their health but will also help overcome the issue of unemployment by opening of hundreds of Cycles shops through out the country.

Oil prices are tied to the international markets whereas per capita income is not. So, the per capita income (PCI) argument does not hold any ground. The oil prices at the US are also high at the moment. Pakistani public has been made addicted to subsidies in oil, natural gas, etc., and people expect from the that it would keep buying commodities at higher prices and selling them to consumers at lower prices. This is not practical and has already taken the national exchequer at the verge of bankruptcy. On top of that hardly so many people pay taxes. So, in short, people are looking for free bees. How will the country be run if there is no money?

The price of petrol during last four months have been increased by Rs 20/- per liter which has gone beyond the control of an ordinary person. The incompetent government of PTI cannot control inflation in the country, therefore, it should legalize corruption in the country so that people should be able to survive.

PTI government is ruining & destroying public life. No increase in salary & wages but huge burden of inflation befallen poor nation.

Meams that petrol is cheaper in in India and we can compre it with Pakistan local currency petrol of 120 and with half the salary income the impact of expensiveness is double on pakistanis.

What an era under NS when world oild price was $55 the fule proce in Pakistan dropped to 75. Shame on Niazi Govt
