PIA resumes operation on Beijing-Tokyo sector today

KARACHI: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will resume its flight operation on the Beijing-Tokyo sector on Friday.

“The airline will now operate twice a week flights for the sector Islamabad-Beijing-Tokyo every Friday and Monday,” the PIA said in a statement issued here on Thursday.

“The Tokyo sector was suspended earlier this year in February due to passenger and cargo uplift limitations by Japan Civil Aviation Authority. Under the suspension, upon completion of required monthly passenger quota, the airline was not allowed to operate flights to Tokyo, thereby making it non-viable destination on commercial basis,” it added.

However, PIA’s CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik took up the matter with authorities concerned in Tokyo and after lengthy deliberations, the national flag carrier got additional access to uplift passengers and cargo for Tokyo.

Twice a week only? PIA fails on international routes because it provides such low frequencies. Why adjust my trip around their flight schedule when I can fly another airline that offers several flights per week like Air China?

@KhanRA, Mr. Khan: It takes a very short time to destroy and airline's reputation and it's corporate culture of efficiency and service. The past governments and their management, have been able to do this with PIA. It has been used as a political tool. Hopefully this is now on the mend. Two flights a week is a start in the right direction to Beijing and Tokyo. Hopefully the frequency will increase to this and other new destinations, with an increase in passenger loads, as PIA tries to regain it's quality and reputation back. This unfortunately will take some time.

Dear PIA, I hope one of your top managers rad this: can you please upgrade your Pakistan-Scandinavia-Pakistan service? It is affected by hours long delays, bad service, bad food, bad staff and old airlines, bad seats and without modern entertainment systems.

Bravo PIA ! If I remember correctly PIA had started in 1964 Dacca to Tokyo which was known as the Pearl Route. I hope and pray that the new management takes the national carrier "back to its former glory". We still miss the late Air Marshal Nur Khan and Omar Kureishi !
