PESHAWAR, Jan 13: Peshawar and its adjoining areas received first rain of the winter on Sunday ending a prolonged dry spell that caused increasing pollution and its related diseases.

Parachinar, the headquarters of Kurram Agency, in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas also received light snow fall on Saturday and Sunday.

Apart from Peshawar and its outskirts, Risalpur, Charsadda, Chakwal and tribal areas adjoining NWFP including Parachinar also received light rain causing a sigh of relief for the people especially the farmers as continued dry spell destroyed crops in several parts of the province.

The provincial capital, which remained under the cover of thick and dark clouds for most parts of the day, received intermittent light showers in the early hours on Sunday.

The local Met Office recorded 2mm rain since early morning till the filing of this report.

Intermittent rain caused a sigh of relief for the people of Peshawar where air pollution due to prolonged dry spell caused chess related diseases.

However, the Sunday’s rain did not cause further decrease in temperature as the Met Office authorities recorded 18 degree Celsius (maximum) and 5.9 Celsius minimum on Sunday in Peshawar. Whereas, the percentage of humidity in air was recorded at 81 per cent.

The weather forecast for the next 24-hours in Peshawar is hazy, cloudy in addition to chances of rain.
