UPPER DIR: General officer commanding (GOC), Malakand, Major General Khalid Saeed has said that the Pakistan Army would make efforts to establish a cadet college and army public school in Dir so that the area students could get quality education on their doorstep.

He was speaking as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of Dir Public School here. The school is being run under the supervision of army. MNA Sahibzada Sibghatullah, former MNA Najamuddin Khan, Upper Dir district nazim Sahibzada Faseehullah and elders of the area attended the ceremony. The GOC said that talented teaching staff was hired for the school to make it a quality educational institution. He said that Rs7 million was being spent on furnishing of the school building and other facilities. He said that the school would impart quality education to the local children.

He said that they would also establish a cadet college and army public school in Dir for which efforts were being made. He said that they changed the name of the former district council public high school to Dir Public School which would now be run under the supervision of Pakistan Army.

Najamuddin Khan and Faseehullah lauded the role of the GOC in establishing the Dir Public School and urged him to play his active role in establishment of the army public school and cadet college in the area.

They said that Upper Dir lagged behind other districts in education sector because the area had been kept deprived from education till 1970.
