APROPOS the editorial ‘Opposition in hibernation?’ (May 10). It asks whether the opposition was in a state of hibernation and kept quiet on national issues in the National Assembly on May 8 when the PM attended the session. The reasons were given very eloquently and explained convincingly.

Allow me to add that the opposition on the pretext of saving the system conceded right after last year’s election results that it would prefer to allow the present ruling party to complete its five-year term, although it has continued to raise half-hearted assertions of massive rigging and repeatedly calling the prime minister a ‘selected’ one.

None of the major opposition parties ever seriously tried to come up with solid proof in support of their allegations.

There were, of course, fears of engineering election results, prior to the 2018 polls but subsequently as the events emerged, everything appeared normal and changes took place as rightly some analysts had warned!

The present scenario is very clear and the indications too visible to need any further analysis. The two major opposition parties appear not only to be in hibernation but gelded to be able to pose any threat to the ruling party.

This may sufficiently explain the reasons of what you termed as ‘a strategy in disarray’ and ‘a vow of silence’ by the Opposition parties, unfortunately.
