THIS refers to the news report ‘NAB refuses to let Shahbaz go in Aashiyana scam case’ (May 15). However, Shahbaz has already gone abroad, with return not so certain.

Shahbaz also bears responsibility for the death of 14 innocent men and women and wounding of over 80 in Model Town.

Come to think of it the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is a very ‘tough’ body, but the results achieved over the years are poor.

However, the blame for this does not all rest squarely on NAB’s shoulders. Despite NAB’s opposition, and even in other cases, the courts seem to be rather generous in granting bail, stay orders and other reliefs to the accused.

After all, granting Nawaz Sharif a six-week reprieve while serving a jail term was unusual indeed, and as claimed by some, unprecedented in the legal history. Also, Maryam Nawaz got off scot-free despite submitting forged documents to the court.

What a shame!
