LAKKI MARWAT: Two people were killed and one was wounded in separate incidents in parts of the district, witnesses and official sources said on Saturday.

They said that roof of a hotel room in Ghaznikhel locality collapsed due to heavy rains on Friday night, leaving one Sharifullah dead and his brother Hanifullah injured. They belonged to Bharat area of Bannu district. The hotel is located on the Indus Highway and besides local residents the people travelling on the highway stop there for food or shelter.

The body and injured were retrieved from debris and taken to the DHQ hospital, Tajazai, by local police.

The rain also damaged several houses in Goraka Syedkhel and other rural localities. Rainwater accumulated in streets in the congested localities of Lakki city as municipal authorities have failed to remove heaps of garbage from urban localities.

Meanwhile, an aged man was killed over a petty dispute in Tarikhel village.

Tajori police said that Saifur Rehman and his father Mohammad Sadiq were attacked by their rivals when they were going to mosque to offer prayer.

“As a result, Sadiq was seriously wounded,” they said, adding that he was taken to a hospital in Tajori town, but did not survive. Saifur Rehman told police that Gul Khanan and Aftab attacked them with pistol in the village. He said the attackers had also beaten up his father a few days ago. Police registered the case and have started investigation.

Talking to mediapersons here, PPP senior vice-president Islam Gul and former information secretary Gul Faraz said that devaluation of rupee had exposed the failed economic policies of the present government.
