GUJRAT: PPP Punjab president Qamar Zaman Kaira’s son and his friend died in an accident near Lalamusa local government academy on Friday afternoon.

Osama Qamar Kaira, 20, a BS honours third year student at the Government College University, Lahore, and his friend Hamza Butt, who studied in a Lalamusa college, were on their way home from Kharian when Osama lost control over the steering and the car rammed a roadside tree. Both the friends died on the spot.

Teams of the Rescue 1122 and motorway police brought out the bodies of the by cutting the front portion of the car. They shifted the bodies to a local trauma centre.

A number of people from Lalamusa and across Gujrat made for the residence of Mr Kaira who was informed about the news of the tragic incident in Islamabad.

Osama was the youngest son of the former federal minister. The family said funeral prayers would be held in Lalamusa at 3pm on Saturday (today).

Prime Minister Imran Khan, army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar condoled the death of the PPP leader’s son. PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and political leaders including Munawar Anjum, Hassan Murtaza, Chaudhry Manzoor, PML-N’s Hamza Shahbaz, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Rana Sanaullah, Azma Bukhari, Jamaat-i-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq, Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, Tehreek-i-Istaqlal’s Rehmat Khan Wardag, JUP’s Pir Ijaz Hashmi and Awami National Party’s Ehsan Wyne also offered their condolences.

In his condolence message, the chief minister extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
