Vawda distributes Rs30m among 1,000 NA-249 constituents under 'Self-Employment Scheme'

PTI lawmaker Faisal Vawda on Friday, in his individual capacity, launched a "Self-Employment Scheme" for his NA-249 constituency in Baldia Town area of Karachi.
The federal minister, while addressing a cheque-distribution ceremony, said that the scheme has been introduced to provide business opportunities to jobless people in the constituency. In the first phase, Rs30 million will be distributed among nearly 1,000 people, he said.
He announced that the amount would be given as an interest-free loan. Vawda said that the Benazir Income Support Programme and other such programmes were good but the scheme introduced by him is better than the older schemes as it would help beneficiaries initiate their own livelihood, instead of lining up every month to get a small amount of cash.
Vawda said that the PTI was supporting people in line with "Islamic teachings" and helping people in earning their livelihood "without involvement of interest".
Earlier on Thursday night, Shahbaz Gill, spokesperson to the Punjab chief minister, took to Twitter to share a poster for Vawda's scheme, saying it would not use any funds from the federal or provincial governments. The amount has been arranged by Vawda and other philanthropists.

If its from his own pocket than its really commendable, however one thing that I must say is that if you do a noble act than it's good not to publicize it, however I don't remember any other politician giving a huge amount of money out of his/her pocket so that in itself is really good

Good gesture but do you honestly believe one can start a business with just 30,000 Rupees? 30 million distributed among 1000 individuals doesn't really help start a business when dollar is trading at Rs/150.

It is sad that public money is wasted on unendurable initiatives, which can be considered as a political bribery scheme. Recently, the Govt. has launched EHSAS program, similar to Benazir Income Support Program, therefore, it is better to support the poor people through these two official initiatives. Mr. Vawda is simply trying to bribe people to strengthen his constituency, and remain relevant in politics. I am sure, once PTI is out, he will be facing the music of corruption in anti-corruption and NAB.

Raises so many questions.
(1) What are the sources of income that he can manage Rs. 30 million cash hand out?
(2) There is clearly no economic backing/precedence for such handouts having any positive impact on creation of jobs or self employment. Even someone of relatively poor intellect would know this. What are his intentions then?

Create a vocational trade institute and impart a market related skill which is sustainable over a very long period . Unfortunately, doling our cash with no pre requisites of business plan from beneficiaries is doomed to fail .

Let the minister explain that how these 1,000 chosen among the sea of poor in today’s Pakistan through loan of 30,000 ea, will benefit through self help scheme? This clearly shows bankruptcy of our political elites who have no clue or plan to eradicate fast escalating poverty due to emerging financial nightmare in the near future, made more complicated to solve due to pursuance of wrong set of priorities by the present govt.
The country’s swarming poor who by & large make up bulk of our illiterates, need vocational training sponsored by the govt. to enable them find better paying job to break the stranglehold of perpetual financial misery & backwardness. Under this backdrop if, instead of playing game of political expediency, the minister had spent 30 million to provide vocational training to couple of hundred young men, it would have opened a new chapter for future wellbeing of such selected lot. Contrary to this, present scheme of things, will waste 30M, producing nothing in return.
