ABBOTTABAD: The provincial government will provide Rs130m funds to the Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Radiotherapy, Abbottabad, said Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani on Sunday.
“We will never allow the shortage of funds to become a hurdle to patient care. The health cards will ensure the provision of free care to the people,” he said during a briefing at the INOR here.
INOR director Dr Musab Riaz briefed the assembly speaker about the hospital’s affairs and said the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission overseeing the hospital had sanctioned Rs473 million for the installations of the latest machinery to improve patient care.
He said new facilities at the institute catered to Hazara region and adjoining areas.
“The people from Hazara division used to go to Rawalpindi and Lahore for the treatment of oncology-related problems but now, they get quality services here,” he said.
INOR Patient Welfare Society president retired Major Amanullah Khan said the society was helping the poor and needy patients get costly cancer medicines at discounted rates, while free medicines were given away to them in large numbers with the help of philanthropists.
