HYDERABAD, July 16: The People’s Party Parliamentarians has accused a political party of using government machinery to ensure the success of a public meeting scheduled for July 17, which will also be addressed by the prime minister. In a joint statement issued here on Saturday, MPA Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Syed Faiz Ali Shah, Syed Saleem Shah Bukhari, Mir Fateh Talpur, Amanullah Siyal, Aftab Ahmad Khanzada and other PPP leaders alleged that the party was extorting money from bazaars and government officials were also working day and night to ensure the success of the public meeting.

They further alleged that searches were being conducted on all roads and people were being humiliated. They said roads and roundabouts had been profusely illuminated and electricity was being stolen. They said roads had been occupied by police and the Code of Conduct announced by the Election Commission was being openly violated.

The said the party had asked mill owners to send their workers to the public meeting.

HUNGER STRIKE: Activists of the Awami Tehrik observed a token hunger strike at the Naseem Nazar Chowk in Qasimabad on Saturday against issuance of NICs to foreigners and alleged usurpation of resources of Sindhis by outsiders.
