ATTOCK, July 15: A 14-year old student of 8th class was killed and 30 others injured in a bus accident near Haro bridge on main GT road, some 22km away from here on Friday morning. Police said as many as 35 students and staff members of Divisional Public School (DPS) Faisalabad were going to Swat on a picnic trip by an old model bus (FDM-6628). When they reached Harro Bridge on main GT road at about 6am, the bus overturned due to speeding and fell into a 25-feet deep ravine.

As a result, a student, Abdul Baker son of Muhammad Azeem, died on the spot while 30 others, including students, staff members and driver, received serious injuries.

Officials of district administration, police and ambulances of Edhi Trust rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operation with the help of local residents.

Later, the injured including Hyder Rasool, Tahir Farooq, Ahad, Mazher, Umair, Ahmed Zaman, Afzal, Sadik, Addul Rehman, Rehan Fazal, Zaheer and driver Abdul Ghaffar were shifted to the District Headquarter Hospital, Attock and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Hospital, Kamra.

When asked an official of National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) Hattain section said the bus was of 1960 model and was not fit for long journey.

However, the police took no legal action in this regard till the filling of this report.
