RAWALPINDI, July 15: Sadia Ijaz Abbasi of Siddeeq Public School secured top position in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) annual examinations 2005 of Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Educations by securing 783 marks. Fatima Qamar of Siddeeq Public School stood second with 776 marks followed by Anum Sarwar and Isma Nusrat Javed of the same school sharing the third position by securing 774 marks each. All the four girls belong to the science group.

The results were announced in a certificate distribution ceremony held by the board here on Friday.

About 123,817 students appeared in the examination out of which 57,350 were regular, while the remaining 36,467 appeared as private candidates. The overall pass percentage stood at 42.26.

In science group (boys), the top three positions were obtained by Cadet College Hassanabdal. Muhammad Bilal Akhtar with 768 marks led the group, while Tanveer Abbas and Qasim Shahid shared the second position by securing 767 marks each. Muhammad Abdul Basit stood third by securing 764 marks.

In the general group (girls), Bibi Sahra of Government Girls High School Fateh Jang stood first by bagging 709 marks. Maryam Rehman of Government Girls High School Khayaban-i-Sir Syed and Shafaq Tehreem of Fauji Foundation Model Secondary School for Girls, Matore, took second and third position by achieving 703 and 702 marks respectively.

In the general group (boys), Ali Ahmad of Dar-ul-Aloom Yaqoobia Secondary School, Baghar Sharif, stood first by getting 661 marks followed by Muhammad Bilal of Government M.C. Islamia High School, Jhelum, and Adnan Hameed of Government Muslim High School number-II, Saidpuri Gate, Rawalpindi, getting 655 and 653 marks respectively.

Chief guest Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Women University Dr Najma Najam congratulated the students on their success and exhorted them to work hard in future as well.

Chairman Rawalpindi Board Dr Jalil Tariq and officers of education department were also present on the occasion.

The chief guest later distributed certificates among the position-holders. —APP
