SHIKARPUR: Former MPA Shamshad Jokhio, a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) veteran popularly known as Apa Shamshad, passed away after long illness here on Monday morning.

Apa Shamshad had been a close aide to PPP leaders Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto in the late ’70s till late ’80s and had become a member of the Sindh Assembly in 1988.

She had remained in the forefront during the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy and suffered incarceration. She remained with the PPP through thick and thin till her last breath.

Apa Shamshad also served as the party’s women wing president in Shikarpur district.

She will be buried in the Mangi Mohallah graveyard on Tuesday morning, according to her family.
